Data, Sourcing & Legality
Last updated 14 July 2026
NewsB is built to be legally clean. Our principle: use free, public-domain or openly-licensed data wherever possible; get explicit permission with attribution where a source asks for it; show third-party market prices only through display-only widgets under the provider’s own licence; and where a dataset is encumbered, publish our own derived/computed seriesrather than redistributing someone else’s. Market data is delayed and shown for information only.
News & headlines
Publisher RSS feeds (Reuters, AP, BBC, Guardian, CNBC, NPR, MarketWatch, Al Jazeera, DW, and Bitcoin trade press — CoinDesk, The Block, Bitcoin Magazine, Blockworks, Cointelegraph, Decrypt, DL News & others)
Headlines, short extracts and links to the original article
Legal basis: Standard RSS syndication — headlines + links only. We never republish full article text, and we always link out to the publisher. No scraping of paywalled content.
U.S. Federal Reserve, U.S. SEC
Primary press releases and filings
Legal basis: U.S. government works — public domain.
Bitcoin & crypto data
Public exchange APIs (Coinbase and others)
Live BTC / ETH spot price — our own multi-exchange aggregate
Legal basis: Free public price endpoints; aggregated prices are facts computed by us.

Macro & equity data
FRED (St. Louis Fed) — Fed, BLS, BEA & Treasury series only
Rates, yield curve, M2, CPI, unemployment, jobless claims, recession bands, trade-weighted dollar
Legal basis: Genuinely public-domain U.S. government series. We deliberately DO NOT use FRED's copyrighted third-party series (S&P 500, NASDAQ, VIX).
Kenneth R. French Data Library (Dartmouth)
"US Equity Market" index & volatility on the analysis charts, and the equity option in the Signal Lab
Legal basis: Free academic daily market-factor data. We publish DERIVED series (a cumulative index and realized volatility) we compute ourselves — not a branded index.
Frankfurter (ECB reference rates)
Currency conversion to USD
Legal basis: Open ECB reference data.
TradingView widgets
Live equity / index / commodity / treasury-stock prices (the top ticker, per-symbol charts, treasury & digital-credit price widgets)
Legal basis: Display-only embeds served under TradingView's own market-data licences, with attribution retained. We never read these numbers into our own charts or data.
Corporate treasuries & ETF flows
HODL15 Capital
Bitcoin corporate-treasury holdings (the Public BTC Treasuries table & totals)
Legal basis: Used with permission, attributed. A hand-maintained snapshot from their published Bitcoin-100 — not scraped.

How we handle the tricky parts
The areas where a data site can run into rights problems, and exactly how we avoid each:
Stock / index prices (S&P 500, Nasdaq, individual equities)
Index and equity price values are licensed IP. We never pull them into our own charts. Live prices appear ONLY inside TradingView's display-only widgets (their licence). For our own analysis charts we use a derived 'US Equity Market' index built from free academic data — not the branded S&P/Nasdaq.
VIX
We don't republish CBOE's VIX. We compute our own 30-day realized-volatility gauge from free market data instead.
Corporate BTC holdings
From HODL15 Capital with their permission and attribution — a maintained snapshot, not scraped.
ETF flow data
From Farside Investors with written permission and visible attribution.
News
Headlines, short extracts and links only — standard syndication. We never republish full articles or scrape paywalled text.
FRED third-party series
FRED hosts some series (S&P 500, NASDAQ, VIX) under the index owners' copyright. We use only the genuinely public-domain government series and avoid the copyrighted ones.
Social media
We do not scrape X/Twitter or other platforms.
We source in good faith and keep this page current. If you are a rights-holder and believe something is misattributed or shouldn’t be shown, contact us and we’ll correct or remove it promptly. Nothing here is investment advice — see the Disclaimer.
